Questions on Student Housing

Who may stay in NYCIntern Housing?
This housing is only for graduate or undergraduate students employed as interns.

What if my internship has not been confirmed yet, but I would still like to secure housing arrangements with NYCIntern?
You may apply to our housing program and submit your application with TBD in the internship information field, and we will reserve your spot in our housing. We ask that you update us with your internship information after it has been confirmed.

Where are the apartments?
NYCIntern apartments are located in midtown Manhattan near Macy’s and Herald Square. These luxury apartments include full-time security and concierge services, on-site laundry facilities, and dry cleaning services. The location provides convenient access to all parts of New York City. The apartments have hardwood floors, private bathrooms, full kitchens, air conditioning, basic cable (limited channels) and high-speed Internet access. Televisions are not provided by NYCIntern, although some apartments will have these.

Can I rent the apartment for less than the rental period specified?
During the summer term there are a small number of apartments available for a shorter lease term from June 4th to August 9th. Please note in the comments section of your application if you are interested in this term.

When is the application deadline for NYCIntern Housing?
We recommend applying as soon as possible. We place interns on a first-come, first-served basis.

When can I move into my apartment?

Summer 2010: On or after Saturday, May 22nd

When do I need to move out of my apartment?

No. Only same-sex individuals will be assigned as roommates in the same apartment.

What size are the apartments?
All of our apartments are ample-sized one-bedroom apartments with their own kitchen (including dishwasher), living area and bathroom with tub and shower. Floor plans and sizes vary. Each will accommodate 3 to 4 people. The bedroom in each apartment is furnished with two sets of adult-sized bunk beds.

How many roommates will I have? Can I choose roommates?
Having either 3 or 4 roommates will depend on the amount you are willing to pay for the term. See the rates section for more information. You can list a preferred roommate(s) if you choose, and we will do our best to accommodate requests. Otherwise, you will be assigned roommates.

What furnishings will be in my room when I arrive?
Appliances include a refrigerator, stove, and microwave oven. Other furnishings include couches, dishes, cookware, rugs, desks, dining table, chairs, beds, and dressers. Since most people use mobile phones, we do not provide phone service in the apartments. However, apartments do have basic cable (limited channels) and Internet access. Televisions are not provided by NYCIntern, although some apartments will have these.

Your room should have everything you need, except for linens. You will need to provide your own bedding and bathroom linens.

Questions About Travel

Which airport should I fly into?
La Guardia (LGA) and John F. Kennedy (JFK) are the closest airports and offer easy access to midtown Manhattan. Newark (EWR) is also very close and can be a good option.

Should I take a cab or a subway from the airport?
Taxicabs can cost anywhere from $30 to $65, depending on which airport you fly in to. Travel time will be approximately 30-45 minutes, traffic conditions permitting. If you have a lot of luggage, a cab will definitely be the way to go. Subway & bus travel are significantly cheaper, but it will also take longer and most of the time, involve transfer points. Shuttle (i.e.: Airlink, Super Shuttle) and other shared ride services (i.e.: Hitchsters) are available as well. You may also use HopStop to plan out subway or bus routes.

Can I take Amtrak?
If you are coming from the Washington, D.C. or Boston area, Amtrak is a great option. Penn Station is only a few blocks away from the housing location. Additionally, there are busses that offer convenient services from Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Boston, and Philadelphia.
